A few months ago, we presented the Argos AI Maturity Model, or AIMM, as we affectionately call it. The aim of AIMM is to help companies quickly gauge their AI awareness and their readiness to implement AI in real-life production, just by asking a few questions. Now, we are thrilled to offer another instrument that helps localization and globalization leaders determine where on the GenAI journey they are and gauge the extent of work still to be done.

This is the Argos AIMM Assessment, the in-depth assessment of a team’s progression with GenAI. Read on to find out what it does, how to use it, and what to expect.

One of the (many) takeaways of our first two years into the GenAI journey is that practically everyone in the industry — be it buyers of language services, LSPs, tech providers or linguists — has been seeking their own answer to the question of GenAI or not? There is no shortcut to finding the right answer, as it comes through learning, research, and hands-on experimentation. Is there even such a thing as a “right” answer? Enter the AIMM Assessment, a free tool in the kit to help you find your answer, while giving you practical tips and recommendations on where to go next.

Where does the AIMM Assessment come from?

AI today is asymmetrical — everything from in-house knowledge and the required human resources, to budget and sponsorship of AI-related activities, to availability and integrability of tech — no two teams have the same opportunity and ability to make AI work. Making AI work is no small feat, especially as it touches so many areas of the company, from language operations to IT to legal to HR.

That said, through our research and experience accompanying clients on their journey to adopt AI solutions to augment (or downright reinvent) tried-and-tested localization processes, we have seen that a blueprint is starting to emerge to help companies tackle GenAI. Often, to get unstuck, you need to reframe the situation and learn to formulate the right questions that will unlock progression. The AIMM Assessment is an easy-to-follow questionnaire that will not only help you answer where your company currently is with GenAI for localization, and what your journey may look like in the foreseeable future, but hopefully also broaden your field of vision to include other activities and stakeholders as you build toward realizing a vision for AI in localization.

Here are some of the design choices that guided the creation of the AIMM Assessment:

  • Everyone has a different journey with GenAI and not one will look the same. Some companies have concluded that GenAI is simply not for them (for varied and valid reasons). The AIMM Assessment accounts for them, too, while providing food for thought should they ever wish to revisit their position.
  • GenAI touches on so many areas of localization teams’ activity and that is why the assessment is structured in four functional areas — Operations, Knowledge & People, Strategy, and Technology. The questions you will be answering pertain to each of these areas to form a comprehensive evaluation of your current reality vs. potential for progression.

How does the AIMM Assessment work?

Heard enough? Head to our dedicated page and take the AIMM Assessment right away!

The AIMM Assessment is a free self-service assessment. You will need between 10-20 minutes to go through it, your speed depending on the answers you select — there is branching logic — and the time you take to pause and reflect on the questions we are asking. If you find it too long or need to take a break, you can also save your progress and revisit it anytime to complete it.

At the end of the assessment, you will see a Results page, which will display your current stage of AI Maturity, your score in the four measured categories of Operations, Knowlege & People, Strategy, and Technology, as well as suggestions on how you are doing in specific areas. You should also be receiving your results via email.

If you’d like to revisit the AIMM Assessment further down the line, to see how your answers change over time — and with any new GenAI-related developments in your company — you will be presented with the option to retake it.

What to expect from the AIMM Assessment?

As part of the AI Maturity Model, we are formulating a potential desired destination, that of the AI-transformed company (or Step 5 of the AI Maturity track). Today, very few companies have attained this stage. So, for anyone taking the AIMM Assessment, do not think you are failing if you have not (yet) gone all the way. Where you are right now is just the place you need to be. There is no “ideal” stage, especially if you consider the dynamic nature of AI developments. If you feel you are stuck today, you may be jumping a couple of steps on the track a month from now.

When designing the AIMM Assessment, we realized that it is less about the destination (although it matters to build awareness about where you are), but about the journey and what you learn along the way — that is where the real value and opportunities for growth will lie. The questions we will be asking you are intended as prompts for you to pause and reflect on what you are doing today and consider all the aspects of progression you may not be thinking about or that are hidden in plain sight because you have too much going on elsewhere.

But wait, there’s more? If you want to read more from Argos’ ongoing coverage of GenAI in localization, check out some of our publications over the recent months.

Cliché territory, but after two years with GenAI we are smart enough to know that it is not quite a sprint to inject GenAI into your processes (alright, for some, it might be). It is a journey, and the journey matters. Besides, can the companies and teams that have implemented GenAI reasonably claim that they are now done, there is no more work to do, and can go on a deserved sabbatical? And so, the same applies for Argos’ ongoing work with GenAI, building solutions and tools to help our clients in these times of the AI (r)evolution. We are just starting with the AIMM Assessment, and more improvements are on the way!
